McKinley Rocks

Date: 9/28/07

Time: 4:00PM

I climbed around on both sides of the rock mound on McKinley Beach for a while before picking a spot out on the water. I let the microphones dangle a few inches above the water and against the rock. I had to raise the mics after a little while though because the waves were becoming more powerful because of the wind, and the water was starting to smash harder against the rocks. I didn't want the mics to get wet, but I still got a good sound from it.

Art Museum Rocks

Date: 9/28/07

Time: 5:45PM

I walked up and down the path that separated the Art Museum property and Lake Michigan several times before finding a spot that I liked. Who would've known that the sounds were so different just a few feet apart!? I liked how the water would almost bounce off the wall and splash onto the rocks in the corner that I chose to record at, it created a neat sound.

Flag Poles

Date: 9/28/07

Time: 5:00PM

I spent a really long time experimenting by the flagpoles that I found by the Art Museum. I liked how they sounded in the wind so I tried several mic placements until I finally found what I liked. I held both mics over my head as close to the middle flagpole as I could get without touching it.

Time: 4:30PM

I started this recording by standing on the edge of the street and holding the microphones far apart and out towards the cars. But after getting one too many what-is-she-doing? looks I decided to continue the recording from my car! This time I kept the microphones together and decided that I liked it better that way.

McKinley Beach

Date: 9/28/07

Time: 3:30PM

The waves were so powerful that day! I let the microphones dangle just above the waves as they were hitting the beach, I held the microphones as far out as I could, but I didn't want to get my feet wet!
